The Internet is known to improve access to information and to enable creativity, innovation and economic growth. These possibilities of the Internet are facilitated by the Open Internet or Net Neutrality principle that allows all network traffic to be treated equally.
However, the above benefits of the Internet appear to be threatened by the emergent discriminatory traffic management and pricing practices that contrast with the traditional end-to-end principle of the Internet.
This article discusses the net neutrality debate in the U.K. and the U.S., and in conclusion, makes the case for a Net Neutrality legislation that simultaneously incentivises investment in network infrastructural development and sustains the benefits of the Internet.
